Westcoat TC-40 Liquid Colorant | 10 fl oz
About
Integral color for texture cements, stucco, and concrete
TC-40 Liquid Colorant is a water-based slurry with 60–70% pigment, used to tint cement right in the mixing bucket. It's the colorant Westcoat specifies for the slurry, grout, and texture coats in its custom-finish texture and waterproofing systems, and it also works with most other portland cement-based products, such as stucco and concrete.
The 10 fl oz bottle is easy to measure with a small measuring cup or syringe, and a typical dose is 1–4 oz (about 30–118 mL) per 50 lb bag. TC-40 comes in eight colors: Bark, Cinnamon, Clay, Peach, Raw Umber, Smoke, Straw, and Yellow. Used alongside Westcoat water-based stains, it helps installers build custom looks, including cedar and redwood-style wood finishes.
In Westcoat systems, TC-40 colors Texture-Crete resurfacing on driveways, patios, and pool decks, along with ALX custom-finish waterproof walking decks on balconies, corridors, and stairs.

Materials, Supplies, and Other Products
- Westcoat texture cement, such as TC-2 Smooth Texture Cement or TC-5 Grout Texture Cement, or another portland cement-based product
- WP-81 Cement Modifier and/or water, as called for by the system
- 60 mL measuring syringes or a small measuring cup
- Mechanical mixer
Step 1 – Follow the System Specification
- TC-40 is mixed into a cement coat, so surface preparation, application, and dry times follow the System Specification for the system you're installing
Step 2 – Measure the Colorant
- After the cement mix is blended with water and/or acrylic, measure the colorant with a small measuring cup or oral syringe
- The typical amount is 1–4 oz (about 30–118 mL) per 50 lb bag of cement, not to exceed 10 oz (about 296 mL)
- Use the exact same amount of colorant and water in every batch for consistent color and texture
Step 3 – Mix the Color In
- Pour the colorant into the mix and blend with a mechanical mixer at 300–500 rpm
- Rinse all the colorant from the measuring cup with water
- You can also add the colorant to the water and/or acrylic before combining it with the cement, stucco, concrete, or mortar mix
- For Texture-Crete Broom-On, estimate the total water for the project, add the colorant to it, and stir frequently to keep the color suspended

- Moisture will affect the color of uncured colored cements
- Color will vary depending on application, so have a sample approved before starting
- Can cause serious eye damage; wear safety eyewear and gloves when handling

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Westcoat TC-40 Liquid Colorant
How much TC-40 do I add per bag of cement?
The typical amount is 1–4 oz (about 30–118 mL) per 50 lb bag, and you shouldn't go over 10 oz (about 296 mL) per bag. Whatever amount you choose, use the same amount in every batch so the color stays consistent.
Can I use TC-40 with stucco, concrete, or other cement products?
Yes. Along with Westcoat cements, TC-40 tints most other portland cement-based products, including stucco, concrete, and mortar mixes. Try a sample first to confirm the color in the product you're using.
Do I add TC-40 before or after the water?
Either works. You can add it after the cement is blended with water and/or acrylic, or mix it into the water and/or acrylic first, then add the cement.
Can I use TC-40 with water-based stain?
Yes. Westcoat's custom finishes pair TC-40 integral color with water-based stain applied over the texture, which is how finishes like Texture-Crete Wood Finish get their cedar and redwood looks.
Why does my colored cement look different before it cures?
Moisture affects the color of uncured colored cements, and color also varies with how it's applied. That's why having a sample approved before the job is the best way to confirm the final color.
How should I store TC-40, and how long does it last?
It has a one-year shelf life in the unopened package. Keep it between 50°F and 75°F and don't let it freeze.
