Westcoat EC-72 Epoxy Patch Gel Fast Cure | 1/2 Gallon Kit
About
Fast-setting epoxy crack repair for concrete floors before coating.
Westcoat EC-72 Epoxy Patch Gel is a 100% solids epoxy patching compound that combines high build, toughness, and chemical resistance in a quick-drying gel. Its thick consistency lets it be troweled or knifed directly into surface cracks, joints, and small voids, making it a practical concrete crack filler for preparing garage, shop, and commercial floors before an epoxy or other floor coating system is installed.
Beyond floor preparation, EC-72 serves as a general-purpose patch on concrete, block, masonry, wood, and metal wherever a tough epoxy repair is needed. When the patched area will receive a thin-film coating, the material can be slightly overfilled and sanded flush the next day to match the surrounding surface. Silica sand can also be added to the mix to improve workability and increase yield, or broadcast into the patch to add texture and help bond subsequent coats.

Instructions
Application Instruction Overview for Westcoat EC-72
IMPORTANT! Before You Begin: Review the complete Westcoat EC-72 Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS), linked above, before installation. The information below is a brief overview and does not replace Westcoat's complete application instructions.
STEP 1 — PREPARE THE SURFACE
- Prepare concrete to a profile equal to CSP 3 as specified by ICRI
- Shotblasting is the preferred method for preparing concrete
- When using other methods, prepare the surface so the product will soak in and properly bond
- Surface must be structurally sound, dry, and free of oil, grease, curing agents, dirt, dust, or other foreign material that may prevent proper adhesion
STEP 2 — TEST FOR MOISTURE
- Westcoat recommends testing all concrete for moisture before applying a seamless coating
- If moisture emissions exceed 5 lbs/1,000 sq ft (ASTM F1869) or relative humidity exceeds 75% (ASTM F2170), contact the manufacturer before application
STEP 3 — MIX THE MATERIAL
- In a clean, dry bucket, combine 1 part A and 1 part B by volume
- Mix with a mechanical mixer at low rpm or a stir stick
- Mix slowly for at least 3 – 5 minutes or until completely combined
- Only prepare the amount you can use in 20 minutes at 70°F
- Thinning is not recommended
STEP 4 — APPLY THE PATCH
- Apply EC-72 into the crack or void with a trowel or putty knife
- If the area will receive a thin-film coating, slightly overfill the area and sand it flush the next day to match the existing surface texture
- Silica sand or other aggregates may be added to the mix to improve workability and increase yield, which will also affect texture and feathering ability
- Silica sand may be broadcast into the epoxy to add texture and act as a binder for subsequent coats
STEP 5 — ALLOW TO CURE
- Additional EC-72 can be applied as soon as the product has hardened, usually 2 – 4 hours
- Allow 12 hours before light foot traffic and 24 hours before normal foot traffic
- Allow 48 hours before light vehicle traffic and 72 hours before heavy vehicle traffic
- Remove uncured material with a solvent; cured material can only be removed mechanically or with an environmentally-safe solvent
INSTALLATION LIMITATIONS
- For professional use only
- Do not apply in temperatures below 50°F or above 90°F
- Hot or cold weather may affect dry times
- Be aware of the pot life of mixed epoxy
- Do not allow Westcoat products to freeze
FAQs
What is Westcoat EC-72 used for?
EC-72 is used to patch surface cracks in concrete floors before a floor coating is applied. It also works as a general-purpose patch for filling small voids in concrete, block, masonry, wood, and metal.
How much EC-72 do I need?
Coverage varies with the thickness applied and the porosity and texture of the surface. As an example, Westcoat states that a 1/2 gallon kit will fill a 1/4" x 1/4" crack or joint approximately 150 feet in length.
Can I add sand to EC-72?
Silica sand or other aggregates may be added to improve workability and increase yield. Aggregate affects the texture and feathering ability of the patch, increases tensile strength, compressive strength, and hardness, and reduces elongation and flexibility.
What temperatures can EC-72 be applied in?
Do not apply EC-72 below 50°F or above 90°F. Hot or cold weather may affect dry times.
How soon can I apply more EC-72 or walk on the patch?
Additional EC-72 can be applied as soon as the product has hardened, usually 2 – 4 hours. Westcoat lists light foot traffic at 12 hours, normal foot traffic at 24 hours, light vehicle traffic at 48 hours, and heavy vehicle traffic at 72 hours.
How soon can I coat over EC-72?
In the Westcoat Liquid Granite and Liquid Terrazzo Systems, EC-72 is allowed to dry 2 – 3 hours before priming. If the patch is slightly overfilled so it can be sanded or ground smooth, wait until it is completely dry, approximately 4 – 6 hours, before sanding. For other coating systems, refer to that system's specification.
