WP-43 Sheet Membrane Primer is used in many Westcoat ALX and MACoat waterproofing systems to increase adhesion of WP-40 Sheet Membrane to properly prepared plywood and concrete surfaces. Application Instruction Overview for Westcoat WP-43
IMPORTANT! Before You Begin: Review the complete Westcoat WP-43 Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS), linked above, before installation. The information below is a brief overview and does not replace Westcoat’s complete application instructions.
STEP 1 — INSPECT AND PREPARE THE SUBSTRATE
- Surface must be clean, dry and free of grease, paint, oil, dust and other material that could prevent proper adhesion
- Nails and screws must be flush with the surface
- Plywood should be clean and dry, typically defined as less than a 10% moisture reading or showing no moisture with a plastic sheeting test
- Concrete must be cured for a minimum of 28 days and scraped or ground to remove protrusions
- Pre-patch divots or holes as needed
STEP 2 — APPLY WP-43
- Apply WP-43 by brush or roller
- Apply evenly without leaving puddles
- Prime the entire surface to be waterproofed
- Prime only as much surface as can be covered with sheet membrane within 4 hours
STEP 3 — ALLOW PRIMER TO BECOME TACKY
- Do not cover wet primer
- Allow WP-43 to become tacky before installing the sheet membrane
STEP 4 — INSTALL SHEET MEMBRANE
- Apply WP-40 Sheet Membrane within 1 – 4 hours after priming
- Re-prime areas that fall outside the application window
INSTALLATION LIMITATIONS
- Primer must be covered the same day
- Do not apply over wet surfaces
- Do not cover wet primer
- Do not allow Westcoat products to freeze
