Westcoat EC-76 Cove Gel | 1.5 Gallon Kit
About
Create seamless, sanitary epoxy cove base for commercial kitchens, washrooms, and coated floors.
A cove at the wall-to-floor transition improves cleanability, hygiene, and long-term performance in resinous flooring environments. Westcoat EC-76 Cove Gel simplifies its installation by handling every resin stage of the process. Applied first as a tack coat, it primes the wall and the first 1 to 2 inches of floor. Blended with TC-73 Epoxy Mortar Sand or a comparable aggregate, it becomes the troweled mortar that forms the cove. After the aggregate coat dries overnight, a thin fill coat seals the aggregate texture and can be sanded smooth before the clear or pigmented topcoat.
EC-76 is the cove resin for Westcoat's epoxy floor systems, including Thin Film systems used on commercial kitchens, restaurants, washrooms, and showrooms. It dries semi-transparent and is for interior use unless protected by a UV-resistant coating. It is also specified for filling cracks in Westcoat Texture-Crete resurfacing systems.

Westcoat Systems Using EC-76
EC-76 Cove Gel is Westcoat's epoxy cove resin, used to create optional cove base at the wall-to-floor transition across Westcoat's epoxy floor systems. It's also the crack treatment in several Texture-Crete decorative systems, where it fills cracks before priming, with fine silica broadcast into the wet epoxy to give the coating a surface to bond to.

How-To
Application Instruction Overview for Westcoat EC-76
IMPORTANT! Before You Begin: Review the complete Westcoat EC-76 Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS), linked above, along with the System Specification Sheet for the system being installed. The information below is a brief overview and does not replace Westcoat's complete application instructions.
Step 1 – Inspect and Prepare the Surface
- Surface must be structurally sound, clean, dry, and free of grease, paint, oil, dust, curing agents, laitance, or other material that will prevent proper adhesion
- Concrete should be at least 2,500 PSI and porous or rough enough to allow the product to soak in
- Concrete must cure a minimum of 28 days
- Test the slab for efflorescence, moisture, and hydrostatic pressure before starting
- Contact the manufacturer before application if moisture emissions exceed 5 lbs/1000 sq ft/24 hours (ASTM F1869) or relative humidity exceeds 75% (ASTM F2170)
- Prepare and prime the surface as specified in the System Specification Sheet for the system being installed
Step 2 – Mix EC-76
- In a clean, dry bucket, mix 2 parts A with 1 part B by volume
- Mix slowly with a mechanical mixer at low rpm for at least 3 minutes or until completely combined
- Only prepare the amount you can use in 20 minutes at 70°F
- Thinning is not recommended
Step 3 – Apply the Tack Coat
- Immediately after mixing, apply EC-76 to the wall up to the cove cap and 1 to 2 inches onto the floor
- Apply with a brush, trowel, or putty knife, completely coating the area to be coved
- No separate primer is required, as the tack coat acts as the primer
- Move immediately to the aggregate coat
Step 4 – Apply the Aggregate Coat
- Blend approximately 25 lb of TC-73 or equivalent aggregate per 48 oz of mixed EC-76, or 100 lb per 1½ gallon kit
- When using 20-30 grit silica sand, increase the resin by using approximately 75 lb of aggregate per 1½ gallon kit
- Mix with a mechanical mixer until all aggregate is completely and evenly coated
- Trowel the mix onto the wall, stopping at the cove cap
- Smooth and finish with a cove trowel, using water or solvent to lubricate the trowel
- Allow the aggregate coat to dry overnight
Step 5 – Apply the Fill Coat
- Mix 2 parts A with 1 part B by volume in a clean container
- Apply with a sponge float or brush to fill the aggregate before the clear or pigmented topcoat
- Apply as thin as possible, smoothing out all brush and trowel marks
- EC-76 can be sanded before topcoating to ensure a smooth finish
Step 6 – Topcoat and Clean Up
- Dry time is 4 to 5 hours
- Topcoat as soon as EC-76 is tacky but does not pull up
- Remove uncured material with solvent
- Cured material can only be removed mechanically or with an environmentally safe solvent
Installation Limitations
- For professional use only
- Do not apply below 50°F or above 90°F
- Be aware of the pot life of mixed epoxy
- Cure a minimum of 24 hours before contact with water
- For interior use only unless protected by a UV-resistant coating
- Do not allow Westcoat products to freeze
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Westcoat EC-76
What is EC-76 Cove Gel used for?
EC-76 is Westcoat's epoxy cove resin, used to create a seamless, sanitary cove base at the wall-to-floor transition. It serves as the tack coat, aggregate coat, and fill coat, and it's also specified for crack treatment in several Westcoat Texture-Crete systems.
Where is EC-76 cove base used?
EC-76 adds epoxy cove base to floors in spaces such as commercial kitchens, restaurants, washrooms, and showrooms, where a seamless wall-to-floor transition makes cleaning easier.
Do I need a primer before applying EC-76 Cove Gel?
You don't need a separate primer for the cove, since the EC-76 tack coat acts as the primer. The floor should still be prepared and primed as specified for the system you're installing.
What aggregate can I mix with EC-76?
EC-76 can be used with TC-65 Quartz Sand, TC-73 Epoxy Mortar Sand, B-23, or silica sand. A 1½ gallon kit is typically blended with about 100 lb of TC-73, while 20-30 grit silica sand needs more resin, at about 75 lb per kit.
How much EC-76 do I need for a cove?
For a 6 inch cove, a 1½ gallon kit blended with 100 lb of TC-73 yields approximately 120 linear feet of aggregate coat. You'll also need material for the tack coat (about 225–250 LF per gallon) and fill coat (about 200–225 LF per gallon), and coverage changes with cove height.
How soon can I topcoat over EC-76?
Let the aggregate coat dry overnight, then apply the fill coat. You can topcoat as soon as the fill coat is tacky but doesn't pull up.
Can EC-76 Cove Gel be used outdoors?
EC-76 is for interior use only unless it's protected by a UV-resistant coating.
What is the shelf life of EC-76?
EC-76 has a shelf life of 2 years in unopened packaging. Do not allow it to freeze.
